This is a short list of our most frequently asked questions. For more information, or if you need support, please contact us via email.

Q: What factors should I consider when buying manifold gauges?
A:
When deciding on a gauge and hose set, here are a few factors to consider:

  1. The EPA requires all hoses have environment-safe valves, so that the refrigerant will be retained in the hoses when detached.
  2. Length of the hose: 3, 5, or 6 feet are the standard lengths. In most cases, 3 is too short, while 5 is adequate for most situations.
  3. Seals (O-rings) at the ends of the hose/valve: Teflon is 10 times more durable than rubber.
  4. Construction of the manifold body: Aluminum alloy is much more durable than brass.
  5. Additional features like see through glass, make charging and reclaiming easier.
  6. Size and accuracy of the gauges. Our gauges are produced and calibrated to the highest industrial standards for pressure gauges, that meet or exceed the standards anywhere in the world.

Q: How do I use the manifold gauges?
A:
This is a big question, and not easy to answer. If you mean to ask how to connect to the system or utility tools, you may refer to the few pictures below for the connections. There are some tricks I can share with you to use the manifold set correctly and reduce the danger of damaging the tool or cause personal injury:

  • When you are attaching the gauge to a system, make sure the valves are in closed position before you make the connection. Open the port(s) after the hoses are connected correctly, and always bleed the gauge to reduce non-compressed air to the system or mixing different refrigerants to the system.
  • When you disconnect the hoses from the system, you need to be more careful and follow these steps:
    • After evacuation, the vacuum port line (yellow for a 2-way manifold, or black if you have a 4-way manifold) should be turned off (and remain off for a 4-way manifold, during diagnosis and charging services and NEVER get the refrigerant in the vacuum line).
    • After diagnosis or use, turn off the high side port when the system is running. Wait a few minutes to let the refrigerant in the gauge and hose evaporate and return to the system through the low side port.
    • Turn and close the low side valve on the gauge set and read the pressure. Wait a few more minutes.
    • If the gauge pressure is rising, turn and open the low side valve, there is still liquid refrigerant in the gauge. Wait a little longer and let it evaporate, then close the low side valve on the gauge, and then close the low side port in the system. At this time, you are safe to take away your manifold gauge from the system.
  • Never leave liquid refrigerant in the manifold. Constant pressure in the manifold may make the gauge inaccurate, we recommend releasing the pressure especially if your gauge set is going to be stored away.

Q: I ordered your manifold gauge set GM410 and need to work on R22 systems. What adapter do I need?
A:
Thank you for the purchase. We have the following adapter or hose set solutions.

If you purchased the GM410 without the hose change over:

  • Get another set of hoses with 1/4" fittings (800 PSI working pressure 4000 PSI burst pressure), EPA applied refrigerant retaining hose set, 5 foot long each.
  • Get a set of adapters modeled CV32 (5/16" X 1/4").
  • Ship the hoses you have back to us with $7.00 check for return shipping cost, we will change the hoses (with 1/4" fittings) for you.

If you purchased the GM410 and did the hose change over to 1/4" hose fittings and want to use the gauge on 5/16" systems:
  • Get another set of hoses with 5/16" fittings (800 PSI working pressure 4000 PSI burst pressure), EPA applied refrigerant retaining hose set, 5 foot long each.
  • Get a set of adapters modeled CV23 (1/4" X 5/16").
  • Ship the hoses you have back to us with $7.00 check for return shipping cost, we will change the hoses (with 5/16" hose fittings) for you.
Q: Can I use the GM410 gauge set on the other refrigerant systems?
A:
The general answer is yes, but some are not recommended. The R410 systems are at higher pressure and have 5/16" MFL SAE service ports (most of them, some newer systems may have 1/4" ports). The GM410 gauge set has standard hose connectors of 5/16" FFL SAE. If you are intending to use GM410 on other systems (for example, an R22 system), you will need an adapter set of 5/16" MFL X 1/4" FFL to do the services. Our GM410 gauge set are marked with R22, R 404A temperatures for convenience.

Q: Can I use the GMac gauge set on the R410A systems?
A:
The answer is generally, no. The R410 systems are at higher pressure (700 PSI) and beyond the range of the regular gauge set (500 PSI). If you do not have the R410 gauge set and need to use your regular gauge set on R410 system, you will need an adapter set of 5/16" FFL X 1/4" MFL to do the services.
